You know that moment when you're craving something sweet, and then coffee suddenly sounds perfect too?

Or you're craving coffee… and your brain immediately votes for something sweet on top.

That's exactly why Nutella coffee works so well. It's rich, cozy, and takes almost no effort to pull off at home.

Below you'll learn what Nutella coffee is, how to make it in minutes, the best coffee to use, and a realistic way to estimate the calories based on your exact ingredients!

What is Nutella coffee?

Nutella coffee is a sweet and creamy beverage with a hint of hazelnut. It's topped with whipped cream to make it extra decadent, and you can finish it with an additional drizzle of chocolate sauce!

This recipe comes together in about five minutes, which makes it perfect for busy mornings, a cozy afternoon treat, or whenever you want dessert and coffee in the same cup.

It's a delicious combination of two of my favorite things, and if you also love coffee and Nutella, you'll be amazed by this recipe.

What ingredients are used in this recipe?

This Nutella coffee is easy to make and requires just a few ingredients. Have a look below for the full breakdown:

  • Brewed coffee
  • Nutella
  • Whipped cream
  • Optional: A drizzle of chocolate sauce (or a pinch of cocoa) is a fun finishing touch, but the drink is already great without it.
All ingredients that are used to make Nutella coffee at home.

I'll discuss which coffee suits this recipe best a bit further down.

In this recipe, I like to add a bit of whipped cream. It'll give the coffee a bit more depth and thickness.

The combination of freshly brewed coffee, Nutella, and whipped cream is a winner. You can also choose to add a drizzle of chocolate sauce to finish the drink.

But this is all up to you. It's a great way to customize this drink to your preference!

Tip: You can easily make the chocolate sauce at home; you can find the full recipe here.

Why Nutella is a great add-in for your daily coffee

Nutella is basically a shortcut to a café-style flavor.

Stir a spoonful into hot coffee, and you instantly get that chocolate-hazelnut vibe without needing a bunch of syrups or extra steps.

It's also easy to keep on hand, making it a great guest coffee option when friends or family visit, and you want something that feels a little special.

Best of all, you can make it work with whatever coffee you already love, from a quick pod to a slow French press!

What is the best coffee to use?

Making Nutella coffee at home is incredibly easy, and the best part is that you can use your favorite coffee!

For the easiest Nutella coffee, brew a nice cup of coffee using your Nespresso or Keurig machine.

Add the desired amount of Nutella to freshly brewed coffee and stir until well mixed.

The result is a rich, chocolatey coffee with a subtle hazelnut finish, basically a lazy-day mocha that tastes way fancier than it should.

A few other ways of making coffee at home are with the following coffee brewers:

  • Chemex
  • Hario V60
  • French press

The first two, the Chemex and Hario V60, are pour over coffee brewers.

The coffee they produce is slightly milder and more refined, making it an exceptional base for this drink.

You can also use the French press, which is my favorite coffee brewer for this recipe.

The French press produces a more robust coffee because the ground coffee is steeped in water, resulting in the strongest brew among the three brewers.

Depending on your flavor preference, you can choose one of the coffee brewers above.

How many calories are in Nutella coffee?

The calories in Nutella coffee depend on two things: how much Nutella you use and how much whipped cream you add on top.

As a quick rule of thumb, 2 tablespoons of Nutella is approximately 200 calories.

Whipped cream varies significantly by brand and the amount you use, so it's best to check the label (or treat it as bonus calories and keep the topping light if you prefer).

If you want the same flavor with fewer calories, the easiest change is simply using a smaller spoonful of Nutella or skipping the whipped cream.
