Have you ever tried a cold brew iced mocha?
For those unfamiliar, cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours.
But this article is more than just a recipe for a cold brew iced mocha. I’ll also show you how to make your own homemade chocolate sauce.
Let’s get started!

What is a cold brew iced mocha?
An iced mocha is made using brewed coffee that has been cooled, but for this recipe, you’ll use cold brew coffee instead.
This is all mixed with milk, chocolate sauce, ice cubes, and, optionally, whipped cream.
This recipe is perfect for those who love to enjoy cold brew on a hot summer day.
If you’re like me, you’ll always have a large batch of cold brew coffee ready in the refrigerator!

Ingredients used to make a cold brew iced mocha
This recipe is all about the chocolate. The cool thing about it is that it’s a cold recipe, which means you can make it at night and have it ready to go when you wake up in the morning.
It’s effortless to make, and the best part is, you can double or triple the recipe depending on how many people you’re making it for.
To make the cold brew iced mocha, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Cold brew coffee (this can be decaf as well)
- Whole milk (or an alternative)
- Homemade chocolate sauce, you can also use store-bought chocolate sauce
- Ice cubes
- Whipped cream

This recipe requires several ingredients, but it’s worth the effort, as this drink is perfect in every way.
For this recipe, I’ve used whole milk to achieve the fullest flavor, and I like how it complements the sweetness of the chocolate sauce.
But, of course, you can use any dairy or dairy-free alternative if you want to.
I recommend having enough ice cubes ready in the freezer to make your coffee extra icy.
If you don’t want to risk diluting your coffee while using ice cubes, I recommend using coffee ice cubes instead.
These ice cubes are made using brewed coffee that has been cooled completely before being poured into an ice cube tray or ice cube bag.

What cold brew is best used in this recipe?
Cold brew coffee can be made using different techniques, coffee grind sizes, and steeping times.
You can choose to make regular cold brew, cold brew concentrate, and espresso cold brew.
These different cold brews all have their unique set of flavors and are made differently.

For this recipe, however, I suggest using regular cold brew coffee. The coffee produces a very balanced yet strong brew that is perfect for this recipe.
The cold brew coffee doesn’t have to be diluted with water, so it’s fantastic to drink as is or use in a larger amount for a drink like this iced mocha.

How to make homemade chocolate sauce
Making chocolate sauce at home is one of the more straightforward things to do. It uses just three ingredients:
- 120 grams of cocoa powder
- 120 grams of white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (0.12 L) of cold tap water

The above-listed ingredients yield 6-8 servings of this recipe, depending on your preferred level of sweetness in your coffee.
Follow the next steps to prepare the chocolate sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
- Place the pan on the stove on medium heat.
- Stir the ingredients with a small whisk.
- The sugar will start to dissolve once it gets hot; this is good.
- Usually, it takes about two minutes for this to happen. Keep stirring throughout the process to prevent the chocolate sauce from burning.
- Once the chocolate sauce has no sugar crystals left, remove the pan from the heat.
- Let the chocolate sauce cool completely before using it for this iced recipe.
I recommend storing the chocolate sauce in a resealable container to keep it fresh and preserve its quality. It’s best to keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to use it.
You can easily make this ahead of time, just like the cold brew coffee, as both keep well in the fridge for a few days.
It’s the perfect preparation when you’re expecting family or friends to come over.
Tip: If you have some leftover chocolate sauce, you can also use it to make an Iced Mocha, Iced Mocha Latte, or a regular Mocha Latte.
