Have you ever tried cold brew iced mocha? You’re seriously missing out! For those of you who are unfamiliar, cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours.

But this article is more than just a recipe for a cold brew iced mocha. I’m also going to show you how to make your own homemade chocolate sauce. Let’s get started.

What is a cold brew iced mocha?

An iced mocha is made using brewed coffee that has been cooled, but for this recipe, you’ll use cold brew coffee instead. This is all mixed with milk, chocolate sauce, ice cubes, and optionally whipped cream.

This recipe is perfect if you love to drink cold brew on a hot summer day. If you’re like me, you’ll have a big batch of cold brew coffee ready to go in the refrigerator at any given time.

Let me dive a bit deeper into the ingredients used. After that, I’ll guide you through the recipe. I’ve also listed a recipe for homemade chocolate sauce further down.

Ingredients used to make a cold brew iced mocha

This recipe is all about the chocolate. The cool thing about it is that it’s a cold recipe, which means you can make it at night and have it ready to go when you wake up in the morning.

It’s effortless to make, and the best part is, you can double or triple the recipe depending on how many people you’re making it for. To make the recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

This recipe uses quite a few components, but it’ll be worth your time, as this drink is perfect in every way.

For this recipe, I’ve used whole milk to give off the fullest flavor, and I like how it compensates for the sweetness of the chocolate sauce. But, of course, you can use any dairy or dairy-free alternative if you want to.

I recommend having enough ice cubes ready to go in the freezer to make your coffee very icy. If you don’t want to risk diluting your coffee while using ice cubes, I recommend using coffee ice cubes instead.

These ice cubes are made using brewed coffee that has been cooled completely before being poured into an ice cube tray or ice cube bag. You can check out my full guide to coffee ice cubes here.

What cold brew is best used in this recipe?

Cold brew coffee can be made using different techniques, coffee grind sizes, and steeping times.

You can choose to make regular cold brew, cold brew concentrate, and espresso cold brew. These different cold brews all have their unique set of flavors and are made differently.

For this recipe, however, I suggest using regular cold brew coffee. The coffee produces a very balanced – yet strong – coffee that is just perfect for this recipe.

The cold brew coffee doesn’t have to be diluted with water, so it’s fantastic to drink as is or use in a larger amount for a drink like this iced mocha.

Instructions

Once you've prepared the cold brew coffee and homemade chocolate sauce, it's time to assemble the cold brew iced mocha:

  1. In a tall glass of choice, combine the chocolate sauce and cold brew coffee.
  2. Give this a good stir, so the chocolate sauce is well combined with the coffee.
  3. Add ice cubes to the coffee. I like to use about 8-10 ice cubes to make the drink nice and icy.
  4. Next, pour the milk into the glass.
  5. Finish the drink with a serving of whipped cream.

You've now made an amazing cold brew iced mocha at home! I recommend serving the drink as soon as possible.

Give the drink a good stir before drinking, especially if you're using whipped cream. This way, you'll get a nicely balanced drinking experience.

Remember, you can always switch out the whole milk for a different kind or sweeten the drink a bit more with chocolate sauce.

How to make homemade chocolate sauce

Making chocolate sauce at home is one of the more straightforward things to do. It uses just three ingredients:

  • 120 grams of cocoa powder
  • 120 grams of white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (0.12 l) of cold tap water
"Homemade chocolate sauce."

The above-listed ingredients make for 6-8 servings of this recipe, depending on how sweet you like to drink your coffee. Follow the next steps to prepare the chocolate sauce:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
  2. Place the pan on the stove on medium heat.
  3. Stir the ingredients with a small whisk.
  4. The sugar will start to dissolve once it gets hot; this is good.
  5. Usually, it takes about two minutes until this happens. Keep stirring throughout the process to prevent burning the chocolate sauce.
  6. Once the chocolate sauce has no sugar crystals left, remove the pan from the heat.
  7. Let the chocolate sauce cool completely before using it for this iced recipe.

I recommend storing the chocolate sauce in a resealable container to keep it fresh. It’s best to keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use it.

You can easily make this ahead of time, just like the cold brew coffee, as both keep well in the fridge for a few days. It’s the perfect preparation when you’re expecting family or friends are coming over.

Tip: If you have some leftover chocolate sauce, you can also make an Iced Mocha, Iced Mocha Latte, or a regular Mocha latte with it.
