More importantly, it’s entirely customizable. You can use more or less coffee, more or less syrup, and more or less chocolate sauce to make your latte fit your exact taste.

What is an iced mocha latte?

An iced mocha latte is an espresso-based latte that is made combining a sweet mocha syrup, chocolate sauce, a refreshing amount of milk and is topped with whipped cream for a smooth drinking experience.

This is all served on a generous amount of ice cubes for the ultimate iced coffee recipe that is perfect for those hot summer days.

And the best part about it? You can serve a couple of these iced mocha lattes in just a few minutes when you’ve got everything ready to go. Let me get into the different ingredients used in this recipe:

What ingredients are in an iced mocha latte?

To make an amazing iced mocha latte at home, you’re going to need a few ingredients that you can make ahead of time. This way, you can make this recipe in just a few minutes, which is awesome.

You’re going to need the following ingredients to make an iced mocha latte at home:

  • Whole milk (or a different milk of choice, you can also use dairy-free for this recipe)
  • Two espresso shots
  • Mocha syrup
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Whipped cream
  • Ice cubes

As you can see from the list above, this recipe includes quite a few different ingredients. Trust me when I say that this will make for the best iced mocha latte you’ve ever tasted.

Down below, I’ll talk a bit about the best coffee to use. I’ve listed a recipe for the chocolate sauce and mocha syrup after the recipe card.

The whipped cream is optional in this recipe but makes for an amazing addition. It adds a sweet note to the concoction that is very pleasant and works great with the added chocolate sauce.

This drink is cooled with ice cubes. If you want to enjoy this drink while slowly sipping on it in the summer heat, I suggest using coffee ice cubes instead.

Coffee ice cubes are made using brewed coffee instead of plain water. It’s amazing as you’ll cool your drink, and while it heats up, it’ll leave even more coffee flavor! You can check out my recipe for coffee ice cubes here.

What coffee is used in an iced mocha latte?

An iced mocha latte is the most delicious when using espresso coffee at home. Espresso coffee makes for a powerful and robust mouthfeel that perfectly combines with the sweeter notes of the chocolate sauce and mocha syrup.

If you have an espresso machine at home, pull two espresso shots from it and cool it down before using.

If you have a Nespresso or Keurig machine at home, you can also use it to brew two espresso coffees. Simply add two coffee pods to your machine and let the machine do all the work for you!

Iced Mocha Latte

This easy iced mocha latte can be made in just 5 minutes and is mouthwateringly delicious.

  • 3/4 cup (0.18 l) whole milk (or a milk of choice)
  • 2 espresso shots
  • 1 tbsp (15 grams) of mocha syrup
  • 1 tbsp (15 grams) of chocolate sauce
  • Whipped cream
  • Ice cubes


Once you've made the mocha syrup and chocolate sauce, it's all about combining the ingredients to make this amazing coffee drink:

  1. In a tall glass, pour in the mocha syrup.
  2. Add the espressos to the glass and give this a stir.
  3. Add ice cubes to your liking. I added eight ice cubes to my coffee, which fills the glass about halfway.
  4. Now, pour in the milk of choice.
  5. Top the iced mocha latte with a serving of whipped cream.
  6. Swirl the chocolate sauce on top and serve.

You've just made this amazing coffee. I suggest serving it as soon as possible, so the whipped cream keeps its fluffy texture.


I used whole milk for this recipe as I like the full flavor. You can opt to use a lower-fat milk or even a milk alternative for this coffee recipe.

Iced mocha latte calories

The total number of calories an iced mocha latte contains is 200. Most calories come from the added milk and whipped cream. I’ve listed a full breakdown of the calories below.

By checking below, you can switch out the calories of the whole milk, if you plan on using a different milk or milk alternative:

  • The whole milk used in this recipe is good for 110 calories.
  • One serving of whipped cream adds 52 calories.
  • The chocolate sauce contains 19 calories per tablespoon.
  • One tablespoon of mocha syrup adds 19 calories to the total.

If you plan on using a bit more syrup to sweeten your coffee a bit more, keep in mind that the number of calories will get higher as well.

You can also switch out the homemade chocolate sauce for a store-bought kind. If you plan to do so, you can retract the number of calories listed above and add the calories of the chocolate sauce of choice.

How to make the chocolate sauce at home

Making chocolate sauce at home is super easy to do. And it uses just three ingredients, using equal parts so you can choose how much chocolate sauce to make.

For this recipe, get the following ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (0.12 l) of cocoa powder
  • 120 grams of white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (0.12 l) of water
  • A splash of vanilla syrup (optional)

The above-listed amounts will make a good amount of chocolate sauce. It’ll be enough for ten servings of this iced mocha latte, depending on the amount you plan on using per serving.

If you don’t want to make as much chocolate sauce, simply half the recipe, and you can follow the same steps listed below:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
  2. Place it on the stove on medium heat.
  3. Keep stirring the chocolate sauce until the sugar has dissolved and you’re left with a smooth chocolate sauce.
  4. If you want to add some vanilla syrup to your chocolate sauce — which will make it even more delicious — add it now.
  5. Then, remove the chocolate sauce from the heat and let it cool completely.

Once cooled, I suggest storing it in a resealable container for optimal storage. Place it in the refrigerator for up to a few days.

How to make mocha syrup at home

To flavor this amazing coffee, you’re going to use a simple syrup. These simple syrups are most commonly used to flavor coffees but have a natural taste to them.

For this recipe, however, I’ve made a mocha-flavored sugar syrup that uses just three ingredients. You’ll need the following ingredients to get started:

  • 1/2 cup (0.12 l) of cold water
  • 120 grams of white granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15 grams) of cocoa powder

That’s all there is to it. The great thing about this flavorful syrup is that you can use it to flavor even more coffees that need just a bit of sweetness. For example, you can use this syrup to make a cold brew coffee with dark cocoa.

To make this easy recipe at home, follow the steps listed below:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water and white granulated sugar.
  2. Place the saucepan on the stove on medium heat.
  3. Let the sugar dissolve.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir the cocoa powder through the syrup.
  5. Keep stirring the syrup until the cocoa powder has completely dissolved and you don’t have any clumps in your syrup.

Now you’ve made an amazing mocha flavored sugar syrup. It’s best to transfer the syrup into a small container or resealable flask for easy access.

Place it in the refrigerator until the subsequent use. You can store it for a few days, so you can also make it ahead of time, just like the chocolate sauce.

This recipe will flavor six to eight iced mocha lattes, depending on the amount you’re using in each serving.
