Editorial Policy – Ensuring Integrity and Trust

Hi, I'm Jeffrey, founder of Your Dream Coffee.

I started this site for one simple reason: better coffee gets a lot easier when you have clear, trustworthy information.

Whether you're making your first cold brew or dialing in espresso like a maniac (been there), my goal is to help you brew smarter, not harder.

This Editorial Policy outlines the process for creating, reviewing, updating, and monetizing content on Your Dream Coffee.

One important note up front: Your Dream Coffee is currently a one-person editorial project. I write and review the content you read.

You'll still see me say “we” or “our team” in a few places. That's intentional. It refers to the standards behind the site (and the fact that I'm building this to support future contributors).

If I add contributors later, I'll clearly disclose who they are, what they did, and how their work is reviewed.

Everything we publish is built around three things: hands-on brewing experience, meticulous research, and transparency with you.

What Our Readers Say

“I enjoy your blog because you share so much. The information is great and varied within each post. Reading your posts is almost like visiting with a friend. ☕️ Thank you for that!”

- Felicia

“Been a black no sugar drinker all my life but am finally enjoying coffee drinks. More as a 'candy treat' than a coffee but as new as I am to this your emails teach me so much 🙂

- Marit

Our Mission

I started Your Dream Coffee to help home brewers, professionals, and the coffee-curious enjoy better coffee at home, at work, or anywhere in between.

Everything we publish aims to:

  • Educate on brewing techniques, gear, and coffee science.
  • Inspire you to explore, experiment, and enjoy the coffee journey.
  • Inform with clear, practical, reader-first content (not filler).

Who Writes for Your Dream Coffee?

Right now, I write and review all articles on Your Dream Coffee.

I'm a trained chef and longtime specialty coffee writer, and I take the “test it, explain it, simplify it” approach seriously.

We currently do not publish guest posts or prewritten submissions.

If that ever changes, contributors will be listed by name with a clear bio, and every contributed article will be reviewed and edited to the same standards you'll see across the site.

How We Create and Maintain Content

Hands-On First, Research Always

I try to write from real brewing experience whenever possible.

That means I'm not just describing a method. I'm brewing it, troubleshooting it, and explaining what changes when I tweak variables like grind size, ratio, water temperature, bloom time, or brew time.

When a topic requires hard numbers (such as caffeine, nutrition, machine specifications, or safety guidance), we support it with credible sources and primary references whenever available.

Most articles are built on a mix of:

  • Firsthand testing or usage (brewing, recipes, techniques, gear when possible).
  • Recognized coffee standards and industry references (for example, the SCA, where relevant).
  • Primary documentation (manufacturer specs, manuals, and product documentation).
  • Reliable research and expert consensus for technical topics.
  • Reader feedback and community insights when they add real value (not as “proof”).

Sources & Citations

When a claim needs support, we cite it.

I don't believe in stuffing citations just to appear “academic,” but I also won't ask you to trust a technical claim without showing its source.

If a page is missing a citation that it should have, that's on me, and I want to fix it.

Send it here, and I'll take a look.

How We Choose Topics

We prioritize topics where we can genuinely help, including common brewing problems, confusing coffee terminology, popular drinks you want to recreate at home, and gear questions people frequently ask.

We also pay attention to reader feedback and what people are searching for, but we don't publish topics just because they might get clicks.

If we can't add real clarity or practical value, we pass.

Updates & Maintenance

Coffee changes. Products change. Menus change. Research changes.

We regularly review and refresh content, especially for pages that include numbers, specifications, or time-sensitive information.

“Last updated” dates are displayed on articles where applicable.

If something becomes outdated (or a better method exists), we update it. That's part of the job.

Accuracy & Corrections

If we make a mistake, we correct it.

If the correction changes the meaning of a key recommendation or a numerical value, we'll clearly note it with an updated date.

Tools (Including AI)

I occasionally use tools (including AI tools) to speed up parts of the process, like organizing notes, cleaning up formatting, or generating an outline from my research.

But the content you read is not published on autopilot. I write, edit, and review what goes live, and I'm responsible for it.

How We Review Products

Some pages on Your Dream Coffee include product recommendations. When they do, here's how we handle them:

Hands-On Testing (When Possible)

Whenever I can, I brew with the gear I write about.

Real use reveals real issues: awkward cleaning, inconsistent temperature, cheap parts that fail, unusual design choices, and the little annoyances that never show up in marketing copy.

When we test, we look at build quality, performance in real-world brewing, ease of use, ease of cleaning, and long-term reliability indicators (including common failure points, warranty terms, replacement parts, and maintenance requirements).

Stirring the fine ground cold brew coffee to speed up the process.

Research-Based Reviews (When We Can't Test)

Sometimes, hands-on testing isn't realistic (availability, cost, regional differences, or product turnover).

In those cases, we rely on research, including manufacturer documentation, reputable third-party testing, professional input when available, and high-signal user patterns (not cherry-picked praise).

When a recommendation is primarily research-based, we aim to make that clear.

The goal is always the same: help you pick the right tool for how you actually brew.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't publish manufacturer-written content as “editorial.”
  • We don't accept payment for positive reviews.
  • We don't recommend something purely because it pays well.

Original Photography & Recipe Testing

Most brewing photos and recipe images on Your Dream Coffee are taken in-house during testing or recipe prep.

That matters because I want you to see what the process really looks like, not a stock photo that has nothing to do with the method.

Hario v60 starter set

If we ever use licensed third-party visuals (for example, a manufacturer's image to show a specific part), we use them selectively and only when they add clarity.

All in-house photos are copyright Your Dream Coffee and may not be reproduced without permission.

Affiliate Links & Display Ads

Your Dream Coffee is a free resource, and we fund it through a mix of affiliate links and display ads (when enabled). Transparency matters here.

Affiliate Disclosure

Some articles include affiliate links. If you click and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate links do not influence our recommendations. The editorial standard stays the same: reader-first, useful, and honest.

We place disclosures where readers can actually see them and maintain a full disclosure page here: Affiliate Disclosure.

Display Ads

Some pages may include display ads. They help cover the cost of running the site and keeping content free.

Ads do not determine what I publish or what I recommend. The editorial process stays separate.

Sponsored Content

We do not publish sponsored posts at this time.

If that ever changes, it will be clearly labeled (for example, “Sponsored” or “Partner Content”), and I will maintain full editorial control.

Conflict of Interest

We refrain from reviewing products or services in which we have a direct financial interest beyond standard affiliate commissions.

No team member owns or operates a brand featured on this site.

Our Editorial Standards

I'm not here to impress you with buzzwords. I'm here to make sure what you read helps you make better coffee and make smarter choices.

Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Experience. Brewing, testing, and troubleshooting in real life (not theory-only).
  • Expertise. Clear explanations that match how coffee works in practice (especially extraction, brew ratios, water, and technique).
  • Trust. Honest pros/cons, clear disclosures, and fast corrections when something needs updating.

Trust still matters more than mentions.

That's why we stick to consistent standards: clear sourcing when it matters, honest pros/cons, and updates when information changes.

Health & Safety Topics (Extra Care)

Some coffee-related questions overlap with health or safety concerns.

Think caffeine limits, pregnancy questions, medication interactions, allergies, cleaning chemicals, and “is this safe?” situations.

When I cover health or safety topics, I take extra care by:

  • Using reputable sources where possible (official guidance, manufacturer documentation, and peer-reviewed research when it's relevant).
  • Being specific about what's known vs. what depends on the person (for example: body size, tolerance, medications, and pregnancy guidance).
  • Keeping the tone practical and non-alarmist. No fear headlines.
  • Updating pages when numbers, products, or guidance change.

Important: Everything on this site is for informational purposes only and isn't a substitute for professional advice. If you have medical concerns, allergies, or are pregnant, it's always advisable to consult with a qualified professional who is familiar with your specific situation.

If you ever spot something that looks outdated or unclear, send me a message here, and I'll take a look.
