If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you might’ve noticed the new trend in coffee: the Freddo cappuccino.

Making an at-home Freddo cappuccino may seem like a daunting task, but it’s actually pretty simple. The secret to making a good Freddo cappuccino is to use the right equipment and the right recipe.

In this article, I’ll go over every step, so you can quickly try this new TikTok trend at home. Let’s get started!

What is a Freddo cappuccino?

Before getting into the full guide to making a Freddo cappuccino at home, what exactly is it?

A Freddo cappuccino is an iced coffee made using two espresso shots that have been shaken on ice for a foamy constancy; this is poured over ice and topped with cold foam and a dusting of cinnamon or cocoa powder!

This iced coffee is made with the same shaken espresso technique used to create an iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso.

Below, you’ll find the complete ingredient list and all the steps to make this amazing Freddo coffee yourself.

What ingredients are used to make a Freddo cappuccino?

If you want to make a Freddo cappuccino, you’ll only need three main ingredients. Have a look below for the full list:

  • Espresso coffee
  • 2% fat milk (to make cold foam)
  • Ice cubes
All the ingredients that you need to make a Freddo cappuccino at home.

Those are the only ingredients you need to make a delicious iced coffee at home. You can choose to sweeten your Freddo cappuccino with some sugar or coffee syrup.

I’ve listed some delicious coffee syrup recipes a bit further down that I think go very well with this iced coffee.

I’ll talk more about espresso coffee and how to make cold foam at home below.

But first, let’s talk about the ice cubes to use. If you want to enjoy this iced coffee while slowly sipping on it, I suggest making a few coffee ice cubes beforehand.

Coffee ice cubes are made by freezing brewed coffee in an ice cube tray or ice cube bags, and they look like this when frozen:

"Frozen coffee ice cubes, ready to be served."

I like adding coffee ice cubes to most of my iced coffees because they’ll release more coffee flavor instead of diluting the coffee with water from regular ice cubes.

If you want to make some coffee ice cubes at home, you can follow this easy step-by-step guide.

How do you make the best espresso?

If you want to make an amazing Freddo cappuccino, you’ll need a good espresso basis to start with.

Making espresso at home can be done using several brewing techniques, all resulting in different flavors and strengths. Have a look below for my recommendations:

  • Use an espresso machine. This will result in the best espresso coffee with the most amount of flavor and great crema.
  • You can use a Moka pot to make espresso-like coffee that has almost the same strength and still tastes great.
  • Try using an AeroPress if you want to use the most versatile coffee brewer on this list. You can make great-tasting espresso-like coffee with it, which tastes great with the other flavors of this drink.

If you have an espresso machine at home, make sure to pull two espresso shots from it. The other coffee brewers are great alternatives that are much cheaper and a bit more versatile.

What is the best way to shake the espresso coffee?

For the Freddo cappuccino, the espresso is shaken, resulting in a fluffy layer of foam on top and cooling it in the meantime.

There are a few ways to shake the espresso and get this recipe started. Have a below for the different ways to do so:

  • Use a mason jar to shake the espresso coffee with a few ice cubes (or coffee ice cubes).
  • Use a cocktail shaker for the quickest shaken espresso.

I prefer using a jar of any sort, with the mason jar being the easiest. Do you have a different resealable jar? You can use this instead.

The best way is using a cocktail shaker. It’ll make great foamy espresso in just a few shakes; it’s great and will have you enjoying an iced coffee in just a few minutes!

How do you make the best cold foam?

The best cold foam is made with low-fat milk. Any low-fat milk will work for this, but I recommend using 2% fat milk for this recipe.

I’ve been making cold foam a lot lately, and 2% fat milk has been working great for me, so I suggest giving it a try.

Lower-fat milk makes for the best cold foam that holds its structure for a long time, which is great for topping any iced coffee. It looks like this:

Cold foam made with a resealable jar.

You can make cold foam using different techniques. Depending on the equipment you have at home, you can make cold foam at home with a:

  • Blender
  • Handheld mixer
  • Milk frother
  • French press
  • Mason jar (or another resealable jar)

All of the techniques mentioned above will make a long-lasting cold foam that tastes delicious on top of the Freddo cappuccino.

You can check out my guide to making cold foam at home here. Over there, I’ll show you how to make cold foam at home with the techniques that are listed above.

Is a Freddo cappuccino sweet?

A Freddo cappuccino is not sweet on its own. You can choose to add a bit of sugar to your drink or a coffee syrup to sweeten it to taste.

If you want to sweeten your Freddo cappuccino, the best way is to add the sweetener to the hot espresso coffee so it dissolves easily.

Then, you can follow the same steps in the recipe listed below, so you have a Freddo cappuccino that is perfectly sweetened for your taste!

How do you drink a Freddo cappuccino?

The best way to drink a Freddo cappuccino is by slowly sipping on it when it’s just made.

It’s best not to stir the cold foamed milk through the espresso base, so you can have different textures with every sip you take.

At first, you’ll have a thick foam sitting on top, which will make your first few sips more milk-forward.

The longer you wait to drink your Freddo cappuccino, the more the cold foam will slowly turn to liquid again, incorporating more with the espresso base.

It’s a fun experience to go through. I like it because you get so many textures and different flavors while slowly sipping on a delicious iced coffee!

The best coffee add-ins you can add to your Freddo cappuccino

If you love to drink your coffee with a bit of sugar, you might appreciate it to add it to this drink as well.

  1. Hi Jeffrey, I was looking at a coffee maker that would make it easier for me to make all coffee recipe you have been publishing on your website. After going through this article from November Culture I’m thinking about buying the Morphy Richards New Europa. Could you let me know which coffee maker you would recommend that can help me make different types of coffee.

      Hey Roy,

I found a great coffee machine (De’Longhi All-In-One) that I’ve also mentioned in this article, which suits your needs.

I recommend that one, purely so you can try all kinds of coffees with just one machine. However, the coffee machine that you’ve mentioned looks like a great pick as well!

Let me know if this helps; if not, please let me know to help you out some more!

      -Jeffrey
