If you’re always in a rush but still want to enjoy a cup of coffee, here’s one way to drink your coffee quickly. The recipe is simple: you’ll need espresso coffee, ice cubes, and optionally a splash of milk or a sweetener.

While there are many ways of preparing iced Americanos, the main idea is that it is a beverage consisting of espresso, water, and ice.

What is an Iced Americano?

The iced Americano is a classic summertime drink. It’s made by combining equal parts of espresso coffee and cold tap water. This is cooled with ice cubes and can be sweetened with flavorful syrups and a dairy of choice.

This recipe is the perfect example of making Your Dream Coffee at home, using just a few ingredients at home, which is awesome.

Below, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the iced Americano, how to make it, what coffee to use, and how you can sweeten your coffee for the best result.

How do you make an Iced Americano?

What if I tell you about the easiest coffee recipe? It’s known as iced Americano, a 5-minute coffee recipe. Here’s how you make it.

First, you need to brew espresso coffee. Pour an equal part of water into a glass and add the espresso coffee. Then, add milk and sweetener (if required). You can also add vanilla extract or cinnamon powder. And there you go — your iced Americano is ready.

It’s a super simple recipe you can make with any coffee you like; let me go a bit more in-depth about the coffee beans and my recommended coffee brewing method. After that, I’ve listed a step-by-step guide to the iced Americano.

What coffee is used to make an Iced Americano?

To make an iced Americano at home, you’ll need espresso coffee. The best espresso coffee is made using an espresso machine.

If you have an espresso machine at home, I highly recommend pulling two espresso shots from your machine and using it to make an iced Americano.

A few other options to make espresso coffee at home are using a Moka pot or AeroPress. These coffee brewers work great to make espresso-like coffee that comes close to the flavor of espressos made with an espresso machine.

I like to use a Moka pot for this recipe, as the coffee is a bit stronger in taste than coffee made with an AeroPress.

If you’re going to make espresso coffee at home, I highly recommend using dark roasted coffee beans for the most intense and flavorful coffee. This is perfect for this recipe.

If you’re interested in learning to make espresso coffee using a Moka pot, you can check out my beginner’s guide here.

Do you have an AeroPress at home? Then you can check out my beginner’s guide to brewing coffee with it by clicking here.

You can also make espresso coffee using your Nespresso or Keurig machine. Simply add an espresso coffee pod to your machine and follow the same steps that I’ve listed in the recipe below:

For the perfect ratio, I like to use a 1:1 ratio of espresso and cold water. This makes for a perfectly balanced coffee flavor.

Iced Americano calories

An iced Americano has virtually no calories. Coffee itself contains just one calorie. Because this recipe is based on two shots of espresso (or more if you prefer), it’s a great way to cut down on your calorie intake.

If you want to add a sweetener or dairy to your iced Americano to make it less punchy, you’ll add just a few calories to your drink.

Do you put sugar in iced Americano?

The iced Americano is a classic summertime coffee drink. It’s easy to make, tastes great, and can be made either super simple or with a few extra bells and whistles, depending on your taste.

You can add sugar to your iced Americano if you don’t like the strong coffee taste. A bit of sugar will give the coffee a bit of sweetness — without overdoing it. It’s a great way to make an iced Americano the way you like it.

If you are a fan of sweetened coffee, rather than drinking coffee as is, I recommend trying out a sweet syrup that is easy to make. Coffee syrup can be made in just a few minutes and combines better with your coffee than raw sugar.

The photo below is of homemade brown sugar syrup that is super delicious and will make for a perfect addition to an iced Americano.

If you’re interested in trying out a few coffee syrups, you can check out my guides to vanilla syrup and cinnamon dolce syrup. Both syrups will work great with the iced Americano.

Conclusion

The iced Americano must be one of the easiest and most refreshing iced coffee drinks to make during the summer months.

Because you can use an espresso coffee as the basis for this drink, you can easily make it at home. You can also use a sweetener of choice or add dairy to your iced Americano to flavor it the way you like.

I think it’s a fantastic recipe, and you’ll love it as much as I once you’ve tried it at home. If you’re interested in trying out even more coffee recipes, you can check out the recipes I’ve listed below.
