What ingredients are used in an iced macchiato?

There are just three ingredients needed to make an iced macchiato at home. The basis of this coffee is milk, and you can choose any milk or milk alternative you like. The milk is topped with two espresso shots and cooled with ice cubes.

I like to use whole milk for this recipe, as it has the fullest flavor and combines great with the amount of coffee used.

To make this an icy drink, you'll also need a few ice cubes. You can use regular ice cubes for this coffee if you want, or you could try to make coffee ice cubes.

Coffee ice cubes are made using freshly brewed and cooled coffee, frozen in an ice cube tray or ice cube bag. I highly recommend using them for this recipe, as it prevents watering down your coffee.

What coffee is best used in an iced macchiato?

To make the best iced macchiato, you'll need two espresso shots. The espresso coffee makes for a robust coffee flavor that combines great with the amount of milk used.

The best way to make espresso coffee at home is using an espresso machine. If you have an espresso machine at home, make sure to pull two shots and use them in this recipe.

If you don't have an espresso machine at home, you can also use a Moka pot or AeroPress to brew espresso-like coffee that comes very close to espresso made using an espresso machine.

"Freshly brewed coffee with the Moka pot."

You can also use your Nespresso or Keurig machine to brew some espresso shots for this recipe. Choose two strong espresso pods and brew them using the machine of choice.

I suggest cooling down the espresso shots before using them in the recipe. If you add hot espresso coffee to cold milk and ice cubes, you'll heat your drink, and you want this drink to be as cold as possible.

Iced Macchiato

Easy iced macchiato recipe to make on a hot summer day.

Prep Time 3 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Total Time 6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) or whole milk
  • 2 espresso shots
  • Ice cubes or coffee ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the espresso shots with a method of your choice. I used an AeroPress to make the espressos for this recipe.
  2. Fully cool the espresso coffee by placing it in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes. You can also cool it with a few ice cubes.
  3. In a small glass, add the milk.
  4. Fill the glass to about halfway with ice cubes or coffee ice cubes.
  5. Slowly pour on your cooled espresso shots. When you pour slowly, you create the cool marbled effect in your coffee, which looks awesome!

I suggest serving straight away and stirring the coffee right before drinking for the best flavoring.

Notes

You can use any milk you like for this recipe. I found that using a milk alternative like almond milk makes for a great alternative to whole milk.
