It’s that time of year again. The time when pumpkin spice lattes are back in full force, and everyone is dreaming of warm, cozy days by the fire.

But many people don’t know that you can transform this fall staple into the perfect fall-inspired drink.

Pumpkin spice mocha is a sweet twist on the classic lattes you order at your local coffee shop. If you’re looking to update your favorite fall drink, look no further than this recipe.

What is a pumpkin spice mocha?

A pumpkin spice mocha is a drink made with freshly brewed espresso coffee, whole milk, homemade chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and topped with pumpkin spice mix!

Freshly made pumpkin spice mocha coffee, ready to drink.

This beverage is like a hug in a cup: great for when you want to feel cozy and warm, but also one that can lift your spirits.

A regular mocha is already great for making you feel warm, but we all love pumpkin spice this time of year, which makes this recipe perfect.

Below, I’ll talk in-depth about the ingredients used, how to make your own chocolate sauce, and pumpkin spice mix!

What ingredients are in a pumpkin spice mocha?

This pumpkin spice mocha is easy to make and requires just a few ingredients, most of which you can make at home:

  • Whole milk
  • Espresso coffee
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Whipped cream
  • Pumpkin spice mix
All ingredients that are used to make a pumpkin spice mocha at home.

The whole milk is used to create the fullest flavor possible. You can also choose lower-fat milk instead or opt to use a milk alternative that you love.

Adding whipped cream to this drink is optional, but it’s the perfect addition, as it holds the spices for this drink. It also creates a sweeter flavor, which makes this a perfectly sweetened drink.

Below, I’ll talk more about the best coffee to use. After that, I’ve listed the recipe card. Then, I’ll go over the homemade chocolate sauce and pumpkin spice mix.

What is the best coffee to use?

To make this into a flavorful drink, you’ll need great-tasting coffee. You can choose to use different coffees as the basis for this drink.

You can use strong-brewed coffee, or you can use a single or double espresso shot. Depending on your preference and the coffee brewer you have at home, you can brew the coffee you like the most.

I prefer using a double espresso shot for this recipe because I like my coffee strong. If you prefer a sweeter coffee, a single espresso shot will suffice.

If you’d rather not use espresso coffee, then freshly brewed coffee with a brewing technique you like the most will work perfectly.

The coffee brewer I like to use is the Chemex, Hario V60, and the French press. All coffee brewers will make amazing coffee that works great as the basis for this drink.

How to make the homemade pumpkin spice mix

The pumpkin spice mix is easy to make at home. It requires just a few spices, and you can make as much as you’d like.

You can also use a pre-mixed pumpkin spice that you can buy in the supermarket to save some time.

To make a homemade pumpkin spice mix, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 20 grams of ground cinnamon
  • 10 grams of ground ginger
  • 5 grams of ground cloves
  • 2 grams of ground nutmeg
  • 2 grams of ground black pepper

Collect all the spices and give them a good mix in a bowl. After combining the spices, the mix is ready to use!

This recipe makes a big batch, so you always have some leftovers. You can make around ten drinks with this recipe.

You can also use the spices to make a few more pumpkin spice recipes. Have a look below for a few recipes you should try:

How to make homemade chocolate sauce

The chocolate sauce used for this recipe can be store-bought, or you can make it at home.

If you don’t want to make the chocolate sauce at home, any store-bought chocolate sauce will work. Just make sure it’s not too sweet, as you don’t want the sauce to be too overpowering.

Homemade chocolate sauce is made using equal parts white granulated sugar, water, and cocoa powder.

This is placed on the stove until combined. After cooling, you can use it for many recipes! It looks like this when finished:
