Have you always wondered how to make that bright green-looking latte?

You are in the right place!

This article will tell you all about what matcha is.

But that's not all… down below, you'll find a three-ingredient matcha latte recipe.

This recipe is easy to follow and is super delicious. Are you ready? Grab yourself a nice cup of coffee, and let's get into it!

What is Matcha?

Matcha is a powdered green tea that has become popular in the Western world. Matcha is traditionally used in a variety of ways, including for making green tea lattes and baked goods.

This recipe makes a delicious, vegan-friendly matcha latte that is perfect for those who dislike the bitter taste of green tea.

The powder that I use for this recipe looks like this:

"Matcha powder on a spoon"

Matcha is a powdered tea made from shade-grown green tea leaves. It is a type of green tea made from the powder, not the leaves, of the tea plant.

It has a very mild taste, so you can easily drink it without having to add much flavoring.

The key is to ensure that the powder you're using is of the highest quality.

Why drink Matcha?

The matcha tea powder is not too strong in flavor and can be enjoyed without the need for various add-ons.

Because of the mild flavor of the powder, this recipe is likely to be enjoyed by many!

The recipe that I've listed below is super easy to prepare and will not take more than 10 minutes in total.

The latte flavor will blow your mind, as this is not a flavor you get to taste very often.

Are you excited to learn more about the recipe? Down below, I'll prepare you for the recipe.

Matcha latte ingredients

There are only a few ingredients needed for this amazing recipe.

This recipe calls for just three ingredients, of which two are already in most households. I believe everyone has water at home, as well as milk or a milk alternative.

For this recipe, you are going to need the following items:

  • Matcha powder
  • Water
  • Milk or milk alternative

Because this is a vegan-friendly recipe, I'll be using soy milk to brew my latte. This milk alternative will give off a great taste as my base layer to this drink.

You can also choose to use any other milk alternative like almond milk, rice milk, coconut milk, and cashew milk.

But there are so many alternatives; choose the flavor you want to use, and consider having it at home already.

For this recipe, you can also opt to add a shot of espresso to your latte. This will provide you with more caffeine when you need it most.

Now with all of that out of the way, let's get into the recipe:

Preparing the matcha latte

To provide a clearer understanding of the step-by-step brewing guide, I'll walk you through the recipe using photos.

The first step is getting your cup ready with the 2 grams of matcha powder in it:

"Matcha powder added to a mug"

Then, add the boiling water and stir until there are no clumps remaining. You want this to be super smooth:

"Matcha powder with water being stirred"

Finish the drink with foamed milk. This can also be heated milk without any foam, depending on your preferences.

"Matcha Latte finished with milk on top"

All that is left to do is give it a nice stir to combine all the delicious flavors and enjoy!

Yield: 1 Serving

Matcha Latte Recipe

A great green tea recipe!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 grams of Matcha powder
  • 20 ml (2 tbsp) of hot water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk of your choice
  • Shot of espresso (optional)
  • A sweetener like honey, maple syrup, fine sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by grabbing two cups; one of these cups will be used to stir your Matcha powder and water together. The other cup is for the drinking of your Matcha Latte.
  2. Boil your water.
  3. Add your Matcha powder into one of your cups and add the boiling water to it.
  4. Stir the mixture until there are no lumps to be found.
  5. Heat the milk of your choice. I went with soy milk for this recipe.
  6. Optionally, you can foam the milk as you heat it. This will get you some ultra fluffy Matcha Latte.
  7. Pour the Matcha and water mixture into your drinking cup and add the milk on top.
  8. Stir everything together. If you would like to add a sweetener, this is the time to do so.
  9. Would you like to add a shot of espresso to your Matcha latte? Pour the espresso in slowly to keep as many milk bubbles intact.
  10. You are now finished with your Matcha Latte!

Notes

You can use a small whisk to stir the Matcha and water mixture if you feel like a spoon doesn't remove the lumps enough.

If you feel like it, you can sprinkle some extra Matcha powder on top of your finished drink.

This is a vegan-friendly recipe. I used soy milk for this recipe as this is what I had on hand. Feel free to use any other milk alternative out there, or you can use 2% milk if you feel like it. This milk will also give you great foam!

Please note: the calorie count is based on one cup of joy milk and without the use of any sweeteners.
