What ingredients are used in this recipe?

As I've talked about above, this coffee recipe uses just two ingredients. The best part is that you probably already have them at home, so you can easily start making this recipe!

This recipe is made with strong espresso coffee and sweetened condensed milk.

The ingredients used to make a Café Bombon at home.

Sweetened condensed milk is a canned, sweetened dairy product that has been evaporated and then condensed.

You can buy the sweetened condensed milk in small cans that are perfect for making multiple coffees, or it can be used as an ingredient in desserts if you have some leftovers.

If you prefer to make this recipe without sugar, I recommend using evaporated milk or “unsweetened condensed milk” instead.

You'll still get the full milk flavor, but without the added sugar that you can find in the sweetened version.

What is the best coffee to use?

For this recipe to work and get the most amazing flavor, you'll need strong espresso coffee.

The best way to make espresso coffee is with an espresso machine. If you have one at home, make sure to pull a shot of espresso and use it to make this amazing recipe.

You can also make delicious espresso-like coffee using a few different methods:

All of the above-listed coffee brewers will make strong espresso-like coffee that tastes really good but without the use of an expensive espresso machine.

AeroPress coffee blooming.

My preferred method for this recipe is using the Moka pot. Out of all the options, the Moka pot will make the most robust coffee, which works well with the sweetness that you'll add with the sweetened condensed milk.

You can also brew espresso-like coffee with the AeroPress. I suggest using dark roasted coffee beans to make the strongest coffee.

Café Bombon

A homemade Café Bombon.

This easy-to-make Café Bombon can be made in just a few minutes and is fantastic to drink at any time of the day!

Prep Time 3 minutes
Additional Time 2 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • One espresso shot (30 grams)
  • 2 tbsp (30 grams) of sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

To make this delicious coffee, you'll need equal parts of espresso coffee and sweetened condensed milk. You can use as much or as little of both ingredients to make a size drink that suits your preference.

  1. To make this drink at home, you'll need to brew an espresso shot. You can use any of the above-listed brewing techniques. I'm using the Moka pot today.
  2. While the coffee is brewing, grab a small espresso glass.
  3. Pour the sweetened condensed milk into the glass.
  4. After the espresso coffee is brewed, slowly pour it on top of the sweetened condensed milk.

This way of layering will make for the most visually pleasing drink. You can also choose to add espresso coffee first and then topping it with the sweetened condensed milk.

Notes

To keep your drink as hot as possible, make sure to preheat the espresso glass by pouring some boiling water into it and letting it sit. Just before assembling the drink, throw the water out.

It's also perfect to use a fresh can of sweetened condensed milk as this is already at room temperature, so you have the hottest drink possible!

How many calories are in a Café Bombon?

A Café Bombon has a total of 130 calories. For how small the drink is, it's quite a few calories.

But I must say that after trying this recipe out, I really enjoy it, and it's totally worth the calories that come with it.

Because each drink uses a 1:1 ratio of espresso and sweetened condensed milk, each serving includes 2 tbsp (30 grams) of sweetened condensed milk, which is where all the calories come from.
