It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is just around the corner, which means that everyone is already thinking about their favorite holiday flavors.

If you’re among them, you might want to try gingerbread latte this year.

It is not only one of the most popular holiday flavors but it’s also easy to make at home with this simple recipe.

What is a gingerbread latte?

A gingerbread latte consists of espresso mixed with the flavors of fresh ginger, cinnamon, molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. This is all topped with a serving of whipped cream and some nutmeg!

It has a pleasant spicy flavor that is working so well with the robust espresso coffee and the added whipped cream.

For me, this is the perfect Christmas latte, and it’s the perfect winter treat!

Below, you’ll find all the information about the ingredients used, the best coffee to use, how to make gingerbread syrup, and so much more.

What ingredients are used in a gingerbread latte?

This gingerbread latte is based on the classic latte we all know and love but uses two additional components to make it extra special. You’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Whole milk
  • Espresso coffee
  • Gingerbread syrup
  • Whipped cream
All ingredients that are used to make a gingerbread latte at home.

Whole milk is used to give it the most amount of flavor, but you can also switch the whole milk for lower-fat milk, or substitute it for a dairy-free alternative.

The great thing about milk alternatives is their flavor. You can make this gingerbread latte taste a lot different when using your favorite milk alternatives.

I like to use soy milk and almond milk, which combines perfectly with the spicy gingerbread syrup.

The whipped cream is optional but will make this latte even more decadent than it already is, plus it looks amazing.

Let’s get into the homemade gingerbread syrup that is easy to make, and will have you making this gingerbread latte in minutes:

How to make the gingerbread syrup

Homemade gingerbread syrup is one of the best syrups to make at home. The taste is sweet and spicy at the same time, which makes it a unique combination.

The good news is that thanks to the magic of homemade gingerbread syrup, you can whip up this festive latte year-round.

There are a few ingredients needed to make the gingerbread syrup at home, but once you have this ready to go, you can whip up a few of these lattes in no time!

It also stays well in the fridge for up to a week, so you can make a bigger batch and enjoy it in the days to come. It looks like this:

What is the best coffee to use?

Coffee is the most important part of any good latte. It’ll make the whole drink come together and not make it overly sweet and creamy from the milk.

It brings a robust flavor to the latte that carries the sweeter flavors of gingerbread syrup and whipped cream.

The best coffee to use for this recipe is an espresso. One espresso shot is enough for this recipe to make it sweet, but not too sweet.

You can also use a double espresso shot if you prefer a more espresso-forward latte.

Making espresso at home is best made with an espresso machine, but they can be quite expensive, which is why I’ve got some more great ways to make espresso coffee at home.

Some of the cheaper options of making espresso-like coffee at home is using a Moka pot or AeroPress.

AeroPress and Moka pot, ready to use.

Although it’s not the same as espresso made with an espresso machine, the espresso-like coffee they produce comes really close in flavor and texture.

You can also use brewed coffee for this recipe if you prefer this. I recommend using a strong coffee as the basis, as the gingerbread latte might otherwise be overly sweet.

Choosing good coffee beans for your coffee will make all the difference, you can check out my favorite coffee beans for lattes here, so you can make the best lattes at home!
